North East firm is at forefront of IP camera technology.

Fast growing system infrastructure specialists Advantex Network Solutions Ltd is carrying out a major IT upgrade for a leading manufacturer of chipboard products.

The North East-based firm is designing and installing new cabling and access boosters to improve wireless network capacity at Egger (UK) Ltd, whose products are used in the manufacture of kitchens and furniture as well as in new build housing.

The work will see the installation of 50 Mobotix IP cameras at Egger’s new factory in Hexham, Northumberland. Also, four 360° swivelling Sony RZ-25 (PTZ) cameras are being installed at key points around the factory.

The cameras are being linked to the main gatehouse to enable security officers to improve the monitoring of key parts of the factory including the energy plant, burning chamber, recycling, chipping and log yard.

They will also be able to use the technology to better track the movements of delivery vehicles in and around the 40 acre site.

A key aspect of the contract is a pre-installation site survey, which has been carried out by Advantex engineers using Air Magnetic Pro software to identify the best locations to site the new CISCO 1231AG Series Aironet Access Points.

Advantex has specified Milestone software as the most effective open platform IP video management system for controlling the extended camera network. Additional cameras, together with a loudspeaker are also being installed at Egger’s timber yard in Leeds as part of the upgrade programme.

These are being linked to Hexham via the internet to provide remote monitoring capabilities and improved security of the Leeds operation.

A supporting fibre optic cabling is also being installed to increase the network operating speed to 10 Gb.

Advantex has completed a number of IT contracts for Egger over the last few years but this latest one reinforces its growing reputation as one of the leading installers of the Mobotix IP camera technology in the North of England.

Other IP installations have been completed at Gateshead College, City of Sunderland College, Oxclose School, Dyke House School and Boulby Deep Mine in Saltburn among others.

Mark Wilson, IT team leader at Egger, said the project required an easy-to-use, advanced solution that would deliver added value user and long term financial benefits.

“This will be achieved with Advantex’s upgraded infrastructure,” said Mark Wilson.

“They have the expertise and technology to deliver a cost effective solution that will be quick to install, non-disruptive to the running of the factory during installation and ultimately provide peace-of-mind.”

He added that another important reason for awarding Advantex this latest contract is that its engineers are qualified to work in the harsh environment of the Egger factory, where work has to be carried out at height and in and around moving vehicles.

Advantex was founded five years ago by former Royal Marine commando Stephen O’Connell and his brother Dave. Stephen O’Connell said: “We have built up a tremendous working relationship with Egger over the last few years and consistently delivered on time and within budget.
“We are now the paramount provider of advanced IP-based CCTV and wireless integrated turnkey solutions in the region.”

Now employing 30 people, Advantex will break through the £2 million sales barrier later this year – making it one of the fast growing firms in its sector in the region.

Other customers include Nissan, furniture retailer SCS, Caterpillar Articulated Trucks, NSK Steering and Simpson’s Malt. Advantex achieved the prestigious ISO9001/2000 industry quality mark within its first year of trading.
