Latest IT Networks Innovation for Yorkshire School
Praises of Sunderland IT specialists sung by Yorkshire school
Fast growing Sunderland IT firm Advantex Network Solutions Ltd has won a major new contract to connect music and language classrooms at a North Yorkshire School to broadband internet services.
The five figure contract has involved Advantex coming up with a radical solution, which will see Barlby High School near Selby save nearly 50% costs on the project.
Dozens of music pupils at the School will be able to enjoy the benefits of broadband internet access for the first time following Advantex’s work.
The new broadband link will help them to improve their studies through e-learning services delivered directly into the classroom.
The School’s language department has also been connected to the internet for the first time boosting on-line teaching facilities.
Traditional cable laying methods have proven too expensive and impractical for the contract.
So, Advantex will be using specially developed high impact resistant armoured cabling to create internet link.
It is believed to be the first installation of its type at a school in the UK.
The move means that virtually all of the School’s computers will have high-speed internet connection – 200 are expected to be eventually linked up.
Advantex designs, installs and commissions computer and telephone local area networks (LANs) and was started in 2002 by brothers Stephen and David O’Connell.
The company employs 20 people at its site in Sunderland and recently passed the turnover £1,000,000 mark in just over two and half years of trading.
Eddie Mould, ICT technician at Barlby High School, says Advantex’s radical solution impressed because of its simplicity and time and cost saving benefits.
“Advantex’s solution not only saved time, labour and material costs but will provide a long term solution that I am confident will deliver performance benefits over many years."
“The use of special armoured cabling was not only 50% more cost effective than traditional installations but has opened up a dedicated and extremely reliable internet research and e-learning facility for dozens of music and language students.”
Advantex director Stephen O’Connell said: “This is a prestigious contract for us as it demonstrates clearly our ability to design and deliver simple yet innovative added value solutions for clients operating on tight budgets."
“We are still a young company, but we are working at the forefront of innovative cabling installation technology and have the ability and expertise to deliver any size of project on time, within budget and to the highest specification.”
Further future projects for Advantex at Barlby School include the provision of new Power Point facilities and the installation of electronic smart boards in the classrooms which teachers use instead of traditional black boards.
