What is an IP Network Camera
IP Network Camera/CCTV Information
A IP network camera can be described as a camera and computer combined in one intelligent unit.
A IP network camera has its own IP address and built-in computing functions to handle network communication.
It captures and transmits live images directly over an IP network (e.g. LAN, WAN, Internet), enabling users to remotely view and/or manage the CCTV/Camera from a Web browser on any computer, anywhere, at any time.
Everything needed for viewing images over the network is either built into the camera or is enabled using specialist software. Other features include alarm input and relay output functions. More advanced network cameras and CCTV camera systems can also be equipped with many other value-added options such as motion detection and an analogue video output.
In order to record or play back images, software is required with some cameras such as the Mobotix which has built in software.
Power for the IP Network Camera can be provided direct or via the Ethernet cable (power over Ethernet) or from a local electrical feed.
