Established in 2018, Veterans in Crisis Sunderland (VICS) was formed out of a need for veterans facing problems in day-to-day civilian life, providing care, camaraderie and unity that is often lost when leaving service.

The Challenge

Many veterans leave the forces experiencing some form of mental health issues, including PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), anxiety and depression, with Veterans in Crisis Founder and Project Lead, Gerard Fowler being one of them.

Realising there wasn’t a service for veterans with multiple and complex needs in the North East, combined with a genuine passion and desire to help those in need, Ger set up Veterans in Crisis, and in just over a year – has become Sunderland’s prime service helping over 180 veterans.

Veterans in Crisis and existing partner, Springboard approached Advantex to design, implement and install the building with the latest IP Surveillance and IT equipment, including infrastructure and wireless Internet access throughout the building.

The Solution

Utilising some of the industries most advanced surveillance technology, Advantex installed Axis cameras both inside and outside of the property, ensuring safety was at its peak at all times.

Surveillance was introduced to keep both persons and property safe, including the new IT equipment supplied by Advantex.

By installing Cisco switching and Ruckus access points, the property was enabled with superfast connectivity, allowing users to work and browse online efficiently.

The Results

The building of the Sunderland-based charity now benefits from the most advanced and state-of-the-art communications and security.

Not only are the hundreds of troubled veterans who use the facility each month safe and secure, but they also have access to the latest computers and technology, all of which is connected to a super-fast wireless network – making the site an efficient and reliable go-to facility for veterans.
