Strengthening Cyber Security & Achieving Cyber Essentials Through a Managed Service Partnership

  • Sector
  • Services

Process Control Equipment Ltd is a specialist supplier of process instrumentation and control solutions, supporting customers across the UK and Europe through multiple operational locations.

Operating within a technical and operationally critical environment, the business relies on secure, resilient, and consistently available IT systems to support collaboration, communications, and day-to-day operations across both UK and international sites.

Background

Advantex partnered with Process Control Equipment Ltd to support the development and modernisation of its IT environment as the business continued to expand across multiple locations, including operations in the Netherlands.

As the organisation developed, the focus shifted from infrastructure modernisation and operational consistency to strengthening cyber security, improving governance, and implementing a more structured, standards-driven approach aligned to recognised best practice, including Cyber Essentials.

The Challenge

As Process Control Equipment continued to grow, elements of the existing IT infrastructure no longer provided the scalability, resilience, or consistency required to support the organisation’s expanding operational footprint.

The business needed a trusted technology partner capable of supporting both UK and international operations while improving visibility, security, and standardisation across the environment.

Key challenges included:

  • Ageing infrastructure impacting resilience and operational consistency
  • Inconsistent connectivity and fragmented communication systems across sites
  • Increasing exposure to phishing, ransomware, and account compromise
  • Need for stronger governance around endpoint security, identity management, and email protection
  • Requirement for improved backup resilience and proactive monitoring
  • Supporting secure collaboration and communication across multiple operational locations
  • Aligning systems and controls with recognised best practice, including Cyber Essentials

The Solution

Advantex delivered a phased technology and managed service programme designed to modernise infrastructure, improve resilience, and strengthen cyber security across all UK and international locations.

An initial infrastructure refresh modernised core systems and established a stable platform for future growth, including upgrades to server infrastructure, networking, Wi-Fi, UPS resilience, and connectivity services to improve operational reliability and business continuity.

Microsoft 365 was introduced to enhance collaboration, mobility, and productivity across the organisation, while leased line connectivity and hosted voice services improved communication, flexibility, and connectivity between sites.

As cyber security became a greater operational priority, Advantex implemented a layered security framework aligned to recognised best practice and key principles outlined within Cyber Essentials. This included:

  • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to strengthen identity security and reduce the risk of unauthorised access
  • Advanced email security and endpoint protection to reduce exposure to phishing, ransomware, and malicious activity
  • Vulnerability management and proactive monitoring through the Advantex Network Operations Centre, improving visibility and reducing operational risk
  • Backup resilience and security governance controls to support business continuity and strengthen protection across the environment

As the partnership evolved, all UK and international operations, including the Netherlands site, were incorporated into a fully managed IT support agreement, delivering a single, standardised support model across the business.

Advantex also worked closely with Process Control Equipment to prepare for Cyber Essentials certification, reviewing the environment against the standard, implementing the required controls, and providing hands-on guidance throughout the certification process.

The Results

  • Improved infrastructure resilience and operational consistency across all UK and international locations
  • Reduced exposure to phishing, ransomware, and account compromise through stronger cyber security controls
  • Greater visibility and proactive management across the IT environment
  • Enhanced collaboration and communication between sites through Microsoft 365 and hosted voice services
  • Improved business continuity and backup resilience, reducing operational risk
  • Successful achievement of Cyber Essentials certification, demonstrating that key cyber security controls are in place and effectively managed
  • A fully managed IT service in place, providing ongoing strategic guidance, proactive support, and continuous improvement across the organisation

Conclusion

The partnership between Advantex and Process Control Equipment Ltd demonstrates how a managed service approach can support both operational growth and measurable cyber security improvement across multi-site and international environments.

By combining infrastructure modernisation with a layered, standards-driven cyber security framework, Advantex helped the business strengthen resilience, improve governance, and successfully achieve Cyber Essentials certification.

Advantex continues to provide a fully managed IT service, ensuring systems remain secure, scalable, and aligned with evolving operational and cyber security requirements.
