Sharing Best Practices at MENE 2018

Simplifying IoT & 4IR with Technology Solutions

We were lucky enough to exhibit at the Manufacturing & Engineering North East (MENE 2018) conference this year and had a great spot right next to the workshop theatre where we were front and centre to all the expertise being shared.

Manufacturing & Engineering North East

Even if you were not fortunate enough to visit the show yourself, it will probably not be a surprise to hear that the North East remains at the forefront of advancements in Manufacturing.

We were lucky enough to be showing off our IoT, Security and Infrastructure Solutions right next to the workshop theatre and were able to listen to every presentation. It was clear when listening to the brilliant speakers during the show that there was (and still is) a vast wealth of knowledge in our region about how improvements can be made in processes.

We heard from Matt Thomas of Clarity Visual Management about how to ‘Make Lean Work’ through Visual Management. Gary Ison from Toyota Materials Handling gave us some insight on how we can ‘move toward a more efficient future’ and Peter Oram, from Evolution MRO shared with us some ‘simple solutions to complex supply chains’.

But probably the highlight of our day, at least in terms of Sharing Best Practices, came from the Advanced Manufacturing Forum (AMF) and their hosted member presentations – of which there were three.

This was a great session because all the speakers shared processes for improving efficiency or productivity and it was all based on actual experience, oftentimes decades in the learning. It was hard to ignore how much it must have cost in production time or profits to learn the things that were being shared and that was refreshing to see.

It was this particular aspect of the show, the idea of sharing best practice, that seemed to resonate with us more than any other because it is essentially how we conduct all of our business with our partners.

Ever since our formation in 2002, we have had two goals in mind; 1) to be a great place to work and 2) to deliver great services to our partners.

During the past 16 years, we have worked with 100s of partners and we’ve learned a lot of best practices that can help you scale-up, refresh or improve your productivity. In each subsequent project, we share all of that knowledge to make your project more efficient or productive, using 16 years of best practice to create the perfect solution for your problem.

Why Sharing What Works Makes So Much Sense

But this idea of sharing what works makes so much sense. We (you – most of us) have a tendency to hold our ‘trade secrets’ close to our chests and believe that if we do so, we’ll be better placed to take advantage of them.

This may well have been true in the past, and in some cases it may still be true now, but with the rise of the IoT and the interconnection of everything, it’s now becoming more imperative for devices and systems to be able to communicate with one another in a more open fashion.

Without this open communication, the vast productivity potential of the IoT and the so-called 4IR might just get lost in translation.

But if we are suggesting that devices and systems move to more open protocols to improve efficiency, is it not equally as important that we, as humans, partners, businesses do the same to improve our efficiency too?
